A LIFE-CHANGING 3 DAYS
The most amazing 3 days of my life….

It’s the difference between having a full life or having none at all.

 Mind-blowingly good…this is changing lives.

Just some of the feedback from our recent 3-day equine therapy course run in conjunction with the amazing team at Warrior Equine. For the 9 beneficiaries that attended, this was clearly a life-changing experience that has taught survival skills for life and created some new friendships too. Funded by the Armed Forces Covenant’s Afghan Fund, which supports veterans affected by the recent withdrawal from Afghanistan and other recent military conflicts, the course helps veterans to overcome anxieties, confidence issues and other mental health issues that can impact daily lives.

“You don’t have to like or understand horses”, says Warrior Equine CEO, Ele Milwright, “the horse is just a mirror that reflects the veteran’s state of mind and shows how the world can change if you change how you see it.”

A second course is planned for the autumn – if you’d like to register your interest in attending please contact Bernard on info@veteransoutdoors.org.uk

JOINING FORCES....
It was great to meet so many people at our stand at this year’s Armed Forces Day. An estimated 10,000 people dodged the showers to be on Plymouth Hoe for this heartwarming celebration of our military achievements and personnel. It was good to catch up with so many of those we’ve supported over the last couple of years along with their families and friends. And we hope we’ve made some new friends too – we met lots of veterans interested in our ever-expanding range of activities and we linked up with other support organisations that we look forward to working with.
SUMMER OUTDOORS
It's high summer – and a perfect opportunity to show off some of our wonderful projects and locations at their very best. We’re blessed with some great rivers in the South West and our trips up and down the River Dart, whether by raft, kayak or paddleboard, are among our most popular. Both our mixed cohorts and women-veterans only Artemis teams have been out on (or in!) the river in the past few weeks.
Meanwhile our weekly visits to Pentillie Castle are yielding some great produce and a recent harvest included lots of fruit and beans – there was even a broad-bean topped pizza which might not be to everyone’s taste but Charlie, who made it, assures us it was delicious.
And we’ve got some new members of the Pentillie team – 5 new Pea-chicks which are very cute but which will need to be kept away from our growing areas in months to come. If they’re anything like mum, they’ll eat EVERYTHING!
SOIL TO SUPPER 2.....and 3

The second of our popular 10-week, therapeutic soil-to-supper courses in the iconic walled garden at Dartington has produced yet another cohort of enthusiastic, knowledgeable gardeners and growers. The course has also been proven to reduce anxiety while improving confidence and problem-solving skills. We're taking bookings now for the September Course - register your interest now at info@veteransoutdoors.org.uk

 GOOD WITH NUMBERS ? p.

We’re looking for a new Head of Finance & Admin to join our senior management team. We need someone to look after our budgeting, cost/project allocation and banking as well as some basic HR and other admin. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role will offer flexible hours and the opportunity to do work with a small friendly team doing some great work for our military veterans. If you’d like to find out more please make initial contact via Bernard on info@veteransoutdoors.org.uk
