Project Artemis:
Activities and support for female veterans.

We recognise that a woman’s journey through the Armed Forces can be very different from that of male counterparts so in 2020 we created Artemis, an arm of the charity that runs some events and activities exclusively for women veterans and all other female members of the Armed Forces Family.

Artemis events are run by our female staff, though sometimes there are male instructors present. Typical activities include river kayaking, beach arts and crafts, mindfulness, outdoor yoga, archery and axe throwing. Artemis events are safe spaces where women can talk freely and openly. Our welfare staff are ‘disclosure’ trained for those times when beneficiaries feel ready to talk about previously undisclosed personal experiences.

And, as part of our role within the Government’s new VALOUR programme for veterans, our team is closely connected with other, specialist support services.

Something for everyone

Artemis offers a broad range of events from gentle mindfulness, forest bathing, outdoor yoga, arts and craft courses to sailing, climbing, nightwalks or just chill n chat. Most are one day events with, occasionally, 6 or 10 week courses. Our events are run by qualified instructors in safe surroundings. And if there’s something you’d like to try that’s not in the diary let us know. Others might like it too and we might be able to arrange it.

Case Studies

Veterans Outdoors works with veterans and those still serving, harnessing the proven therapeutic benefits of outdoor activity to improve wellbeing. Each personalised programme leads directly to the NHS 5 Steps to Wellbeing: connecting with people, being physically active, learning new skills, giving to others and taking notice of the world around you.
