CN was only three-and-a-half years into his army career when he was seriously injured in a vehicle accident during a training exercise. It left him with both physical and mental scars that, between them, ended his service career. He suffered PTSD and long-term pain which led to problems with alcohol and a growing sense of isolation. Time spent with others learning outdoor skills on a Veterans Outdoors estate helped him reconnect and find a sense of camaraderie. He’s since been volunteering on a South Devon farm and is now thinking that this might be an area in which he’d like to find full time employment. “It’s helped my confidence and people skills – and it’s helped me find a way forward” he says.
